After more than a decade with Harbourside, Lisa has found her calling in providing personalised, one-on-one care to clients living independently in their own homes. Her story is one of compassion, connection, and the simple joy that comes from making a difference every single day.
About Lisa & Her Role
Lisa has been part of the Harbourside team for 13 years, spending the past 10 working in the Bill King Centre before moving into Home Care. The transition was a natural step for her — a way to spend more time with clients and provide the kind of individualised support she values most.
Before joining aged care, Lisa worked in holiday parks for 10 years, but she was ready for a new challenge. “People often spoke about how rewarding it was to work in aged care, and it just felt like the right fit.”
Her Day & Highlights
For Lisa, no two days are ever the same. “I go into someone’s home and provide one-on-one care, it’s very special,” she shares. “Now I have the time to really connect with people, and that’s what makes the role so meaningful.”
Her days usually start between 8 and 9am and wrap up around 4 or 5pm. Each day could include cleaning, shopping, appointments or social support, whatever her clients need most.
The best part? “Getting out in the community and working closely with people. You can really take your time and provide care that’s truly personal.”
One moment that stands out for Lisa was during a trip to Newcastle with a client. “We were chatting about our dogs — we both have staffies — when we spotted a staffy on the highway. We stopped, rescued him, and took him to the RSPCA. The smile on my client’s face was priceless. Later, we found out the owners had been reunited with their dog. It was such a good feeling.”

Lisa describes the Harbourside team as “fantastic.” She says, “The management and the community are incredible, I can’t recommend it highly enough. I always feel supported, and management really looks after us.”
Harbourside’s ongoing training and upskilling opportunities are another highlight. “They’re really supportive all-round. The management and the team are top notch.”
